How many times can you vote? I wrote an application that votes for Fountains of Wayne over and over. So far I have voted for them over 12,000 times. Do you think they will count that or has Britney already one because the Viewer's Choice is setup so that all of the good bands and videos are paired up against the ones that MTV prefers?

I think we are in luck, because people who listen to Britney are not smart enough to write a computer program. Go Fountains of Wayne!

I have voted an additional 55,000 times. I really hope they count them. I will let the program continue to run as soon as I get back to the sweet broadband instead of this dial-up crap I am on right now. Plus, I will have four more computers to run it on!! I will push them to over 1 million if I can.

Some stupid survey was released a month or so ago about IT workers and the music they listen to. Microsoft Windows developers were said to have listened to more pop such as Britney. The study was seriously flawed and I hope that we do not find that they were correct the hard way. Damn Britney.

This program is in no way polished or even user friendly since it serves the purpose of voting for Fountains of Wayne like crazy. In order to run the application, you will need to download the .NET Framework version 1.1 from Microsoft (I would have written this in C++ to avoid the Framework but this was a quicky). You can get it through Windows Update or via:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=262...

Next, even if you do not use IE on a regular basis, use it once to go and vote for Fountains of Wayne via the viewer's choice page. It will save a cookie as long as you do not block it that contains an MTV session ID. You need this in order to vote.

Run the program. You will see a serious of numbers that also says something like "result=OK". Anything else and there is a problem. I will be unavailable for a while but once I get back.I can fix any problems.

Works like a charm! I'm very happy you made it....especially since my own programming prowess is limited to making text boxes and "OK" buttons.

I left it running over night. I have 5 instances of it running. So far the total I have posted (not counting the earlier posts) is 902621 times. I have a feeling that it is a waste since they will not count any of them.

Has anyone sent a message about Fountains of Wayne being up for this and how we should all vote like crazy ..to that emailing list I hate?

I don't wanna do it...

*hint hint*
But, maybe the a-holes on there ...that aren't on here...need to be reminded.

;)

(unless of course...they already have been and I ignored the message...which is quite likely)

This MTV poll reminds me of a tennis tournament, where they put the seeds up against much lower ranked players in the early rounds to allow the seeds to progress comfortably.

Just to use a sporting analogy..........:D

I second that! I also have an inkling of hope that these votes will be counted: I actually went through and voted in each matchup, and there was a "vote again" link...so I guess they encourage multiple votes.

I passed the 2 Milliion mark earlier today. I hope it helps. It would be wonderful to see Fountains of Wayne beat Britney in a popularity contest.
