what I find interesting is I think they said their manager listened to the new CD and his comment was "well it sounds like you guys". but thats exactly what it doesnt sound like. also, this is a totally acoustic guitar driven album.jody and electric guitars are used pretty much as icing on the cake.

thank God the songs are there.these are some fantastic tunes. .still love the beautiful but gentle guitar work and lyrics of working mans hands. such enjoyable lyrics! that radio bar tune would be so good live. I'm more excited now.

I think action hero actually sounds kinda like an elton john or five for fighting ballad. on the word "action hero" of the chorus It would have been nice if chris had done a falsetto. it would have been alot hookier and given it an extra ooomph rather than just sing it regular like he did.

acela sounds like something jody would come up with.
I like that background vocal melody.

just heard clips but I already love this CD!

I agree with supermati, this is the album I've been wanting them to make for a long time. From the samples I've heard it sounds amazing! I don't really care that it's not as rocky, I'm digging the sound they have on this record. They're older, wiser and just generally awesomer.

Yea I have been waiting for this kind of album from them also and from the samples it sounds great, very well put together.

I also love how the lyrics are the same quirky fountains of wayne lyrics that they have always had. like "staring at the sun with no pants on" or "and his son is throwing peas and eating with his feet." So we still know its Fountains of Wayne, but the music shows us a newer, a little more mature side of them.

Can't wait to hear the whole thing

that chorus to cold comfort flowers is really amazing and also love how it seems to have almost a nursery rhyme feel to it.I cant picture anyone saying "its a grower" it just seems so accesible and perfect and a Fountains of Wayne classic for it not to hit you right away.

I just wish chris would fucking enunciate cause I still dont understand what he is saying in the second part of the chorus.... and a welcome fade, baith, fairy on the way?

I also right now am loving the firelight waltz tune cause its basically fire island and I've always loved the feel of that song so its great they kinda went back to it in the style it is.

its almost glen campbell which isnt a bad thing.

I dont know if singles matter anymore for them, but radio bar would make a great one.

Noticed this morning that many blogs were reporting a leak. And it's true. :-) Thought I'd let the diehards who are going to buy the album anyway know.

Thanks intown and andy for helping me out!

I'm halfway through listening to it and so far it's amazing! The Summer Place is my favourite with A Dip In The Ocean a close second.

you're welcome

what a weird record. part classic Fountains of Wayne and part something completly different.

It's late at night here so i guess some more listens are necessary. Top tunes are summer place, acela, cemetary guns, road songs. Some didnt click (but only one listen!) like radio bar or action hero.

I've spent the whole day with this and I think its a piece of master.

the guitar work is fantastic. the little adlibs and solos by jody add so much to each song.
just the intricate stuff on road song and workingmans hands, how they mix the strumming with the picking...wow.

I think cold comfort flowers is absoulitly the most amazing tune Fountains of Wayne they have ever released.
I love the build at the end with the synth stuff that floats in like a wave on the last chorus.
still dont know what the fuck he is singing half the time on the chorus ,but its good.fairys? I dont know.jodys solo rocks on this tune.

workingmans hands, thats like a 10 in the lyric department and a 10 in the music.
a lesser lyricist would have made it about love bullshit. instead we get a sort of heartwarming tune about someeone taking pride in their ability to build shit.

a road song was my favorite live when they were playing it,its amazing how it has progressed in the studio.that string synth pad adds so much more than a regular organ could have which is what i assumed they would have put on it. the little melodys jody does sent shivers. he jumps in with stuff just at the right moments.

even the upbeat stuff isnt edgy, its pretty.beautiful. the harmonys near the end of dip in the ocean and firelight waltz......the drums are so killer, the fills brian does, and adam and chris did their best stuff.
oh I'm going back to listen to it all again, this is totally my favorite CD.

Man, all this talk about how the album is so great is seriously making me consider downloading it, but somehow my conscience is not content with doing that. I'm just gonna wait 'til August 2 and go buy it at a record store like everyone else who doesn't know it's been leaked yet. It only seems fair, I guess.

On another not-entirely-relevant note, "Someone's Gonna Break Your Heart" is gonna be hitting radio airwaves on July 18 on Triple-A (Adult Album Alternative) radio stations. Why the month-long wait? I don't know.

theres lots of kick ass jody solos. jody and elliot easton are pretty much the only guitar players where I look forward to the solos as much as the choruses.they both always do such memorable leads.

I feel bad for elliot easton.the cars put out a new CD and elliot only got 1 song out of 10 thats just unacceptable. rics just lost it.

anyways its nice out, going for a long walk on the erie canal going to bring the CD.

Not in a good place at the moment and am struggling to reach the levels of excitement that everyone else is unfortunately.

I am happy to wait for the album to come out rather than trying to sneak too many previews via whatever means.

I hope that everyone makes the effort to buy the album as a sign of support for the band, irrespective of whatever tracks they have been able to obtain in advance.

:)
