Forgot to ask - could you also upload/make available this show?

http://db.etree.org/myshows_detail.php?showid=3908585

Hope so.

I just dowloaded 3 shows from http://mikedavidsmith.com/fow/
I was a bit surprised with th size of each file/show (around 25 Mb).
Actually they're all compressed at 64kb....:crying:

I'm still willing to upload some of my shows, but I refuse to use that compression rate by any means. I usually use 192kb VBR or more if requested.

I'm pretty disappointed now :meh:

Sorry about that. I did not compress them, I only uploaded what I had in the original format I received them in. Which as you say is pretty low quality, I know, but it's all I have. Sorry.

EDIT - That's not my site, so the owner (Boffy) may have compressed them more. I only zipped them and uploaded them to rapidshare etc. The original files I uploaded on rapidshare etc are all about 192 kbps.

Alright. At least I'm relieved it's not a storage space problem.
I'm just a bit scared that these low quality files will spread over the internet.

No problem, I'll do.
Just give me some time to put my hand on the recording and rip it.

Well I don't know how bad the quality is as I have not downloaded from that site, I have only contributed to it. The stuff I uploaded is all good enough to listen to and I regularly do. Like I say, maybe Boffy compressed them for bandwidth reasons on his site? I don't know, you'd have to ask him.

Here's an idea for you Samuel70. In this thread http://www.fountainsofwayne.us/xmb/viewthread.php?tid=1281&page=2

and I think maybe in this one a bit are the rapidshare/megaupload links I gave to let Boffy download and then upload to his site. Try downloading straight from those, they should be as I have them (around the 180 kbps mark) and see if they are better than what you are getting from Boffy's site. If they are then that explains it.

I just did for the Westbury, Long Island(08.07.07) show.
The one from Boffy's site weight ~25Mb and the one from Rapidshare ~46Mb. It's crazy to compress an mp3 file twice

Hmm...the only logical reason I can see is that Boffy wants to save on bandwidth for his website. I suggested earlier that his site just post links to the rapidshare locations of the files I uploaded, maybe that would be better. That way he wouldn't have any bandwidth issues at all.

I'll look at it now. The versions I've posted are mono thus their small size. From experience I've found that most live bootlegs are just two mono streams, so putting them in stereo adds no new information.

That being said, the reason I uploaded them in the smaller size was just to get an idea of how much bandwidth was being used. As it happens I'm not close to the limit so I will put them in in their full glory.

(Laskey: I would put the rapidshare links, but personally waiting in the queues is a bit annoying so I figured I would cut out the step. It's only a minor annoyance but when it can be avoided might as well be.)

Great! Yeah it is annoying with the download queues and all. Just an idea in case of emergency really. Good to see this worked out. Hopefully in the next few weeks everyone should have a lot more FoW stuff.

I've put up links on my site to the rapidshare links laskey16mrl posted so people can get the HQ versions. I plan to upload all them to my space in HQ in time but since it takes an age to upload I will leave them there for now.

What bitrate do you all think suffices for future uploads?

Good stuff! In my opinion, as high a bitrate MP3 as possible. When I get patrick72seb posts me the DVD with the FLAC files on, I plan on uploading them as 320kbps MP3s.

Hey sorry haven't been active for a while... I do a lot of web design and would be happy to set up a site... There are lots of free sites that offer unlimited bandwidth and space as long as you let them show adverts (which can be a'hem glossed over) Are all the files just on Rapidshare/Peoples computers atm?

Some files are on Boffy's site or on rapidshare but linked from there. Some are going to be posted to me by people and then I'll upload them to wherever as MP3s. Check through this and the appeal for bootlegs thread.

Here's another one for you Boffy. Fountains of Wayne Live On XM Radio, April 2007. I uploaded to a site that uploads your file to a number of file hosters so here are the links, choose which you want from here:

http://massmirror.com/099460a1aaf8d2d7facc7fcdad9cce5e.html

All links should be OK, if not try others. File is a .zip containing one very long MP3 file of FoW live on XM Radio, set list includes some stuff from Traffic and Weather. Enjoy.

Edit - just in case mass mirror goes down (it did for a bit, now its back up) here are the links:

I haven't been around much of late and for the near future at least that looks like continuing to be the case unfortunately. :(

I have quite a bit of stuff, however I was able to share that with a couple of people who are contributing to this thread, so if they could attend to the uploading of it I would appreciate it.

I think this is a fantastic idea by the way and many thanks to those who have turned it from an idea into fruition. I am sure there is more stuff out there as well if people are able to devote the time to looking for it. A lot of the bootleg stuff I found was simply via Google searches and P2P type programs.

I don`t remember, I don`t recall
I got no memory of anything at all......

Cheers again Laskey. I've had that set on my HD for sometime but because I never split the files I only listened to it once. Shame about the quality but it's nice to see some songs that aren't on any other recordings.

I've just used that page on my site for the downloads. At the moment I'm to busy with uni to wait for them to upload in HQ so using those links is easier for now.

Thanks for all the effort. I never expected we would have such a big collection already. It's quite astonishing!
